Deutsche misses G-Sib surcharge cut despite EU score benefit

Carve-out of intra-bloc exposure lowers score below 230bp, but 1.5% surcharge remains

A European Union-specific adjustment to global systemically important banks’ (G-Sibs) risk scores failed to win Deutsche Bank a lower surcharge, once again leaving BNP Paribas as the sole beneficiary of the measure.

Since 2022, EU regulators calculate a parallel systemic risk score for banks headquartered in the European Banking Union, treating intra-EBU exposures as domestic rather than cross-jurisdictional. This adjustment reduces  the impact of these exposures on the cross-jurisdictional
