Oil futures and options see record volumes

Brent crude contract traded volumes hit 3.4 million on March 9

All-time daily trading records in top oil contracts were shattered on Monday (March 9), as market participants scrambled to respond to a price shock triggered by the break down of talks between Russia and Saudi Arabia.

At Ice Futures Europe, 3.4 million Brent crude futures and options contracts changed hands. This surpassed the 3.1 million peak achieved on September 16, 2019, two days after an attack on Saudi Aramco production facilities. Three million futures were traded, 265,700 call options
