European CCPs home to 241 non-bank clearing members

Majority of non-financial counterparties are energy and power firms

Energy providers, industrial firms and commodities businesses are among 241 non-financial companies approved as clearing members by the European Union’s central counterparties.

A survey conducted by the European Securities and Markets Authority (Esma) of the 16 CCPs qualified to operate in the EU found that seven have non-financial counterparties (NFCs) that act as clearing members.

Of these, 174 were energy and power market firms, 40 industrials and food producers, 13 commodities businesses
