Goodwill makes up $69bn of BAML’s equity

Across eight US G-Sibs, goodwill comprises 18.7% of pre-adjusted CET1 capital

Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAML) had the highest amount of goodwill among the big US banks at end-June. 

Goodwill, net of deferred tax liabilities, accounted for $196.9 billion of the eight US global systemically important banks (G-Sibs) aggregate Common Equity Tier 1 capital prior to regulatory adjustments, 18.7% of the total, as of Q2 2019. This is almost flat on five years prior, when goodwill totalled $196.5 billion, 19.8% of the total.
