Basel III could face more delays in the US as legislators press for a national impact study

Politicians in the US are stepping up their push for a national study of Basel III's impact, with congressional sources indicating a bill could be launched in the Senate. That would slow implementation of the rules in the US, mirroring developments that saw Basel II grind to a halt.

Demands for a quantitative impact study (QIS) were first voiced in October last year when senator Richard Shelby, the then-ranking Republican member of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs
