Banks have nine months until elements of Basel III are due to come into force, but details of implementing legislation are still being debated

European authorities will struggle to transpose Basel III into European law by the end of the year, according to Peter Yearley, global head of credit risk for Deutsche Bank's corporate and investment banking division, who cited the resulting regulatory uncertainty as one the greatest challenges facing risk and capital managers in the banking industry.

Some elements of Basel III, notably its rules on counterparty risk and credit value adjustment, are due to be implemented from the start of 2013
