EC calls for evidence on transparency in bond and non-equity markets

The European Commission (EC) has launched a call for evidence on transparency in bond and non-equity markets. The evidence will be used to determine whether mandatory pre- and post-trade transparency should be introduced throughout the European Union (EU) for bonds and other instruments. Equities are not included in the scope of the consultation.

The EC will use evidence submitted to create a draft report that will undergo a public consultation in July 2007. The EC’s findings will be presented to the European parliament in a final report by the end of October 2007.

The final report will fulfil article 65 of the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive, which requires the EC to examine transparency obligations to instruments other than shares.

Firms are asked to submit comments by September 15, 2006. Click here to see the call for evidence in full.
