Regulation to hit bank profitability - Risk survey

Dealers expect new rules to hit the profitability of their business, but fewer expect to be able to pass the costs along – and more are anticipating a big drop in OTC trading volumes

Like a long engagement, banks have been speaking about regulation for years - but now the big day is almost here. Nervous anticipation is mounting and last-minute preparations are under way.

"As the rules and dates become clearer, it certainly feels more imminent. We have been preparing for some time now, so while there is still more that can be done, we feel we are in a good position," says Jakob Horder, head of European interest rates at Morgan Stanley.

It is not going to be a happy marriage.
