People moves: Jain joins Cantor

FCA hires Foulger; new CRO for HSBC; Goldman's senior shake-up; equities chief for Credit Suisse

Former Deutsche Bank co-chief executive Anshu Jain has joined Cantor Fitzgerald as president. Jain will reportedly seek to grow Cantor's presence in areas such as fixed-income and equities trading, as well as prime brokerage.

A 20-year veteran at Deutsche, Jain joined the bank in 1995, becoming co-chief executive in 2012 alongside Jürgen Fitschen, replacing Josef Ackermann. He left Deutsche in 2015.

 

Lee Foulger, a senior member of the European Commission's financial services unit and a member of commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis's cabinet, is departing to join the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Foulger will become the head of the FCA's international relations department, replacing Nick Miller, who will now be in charge of asset management supervision.

Foulger started working at the EC in 2014. Initially a member of previous financial services commissioner Jonathan Hill's cabinet, he then became part of vice-president Dombrovskis's team. Foulger was advising the cabinet on issues related to capital markets and asset management.

Between 2011 and 2014, Foulger was Deutsche Bank's head of securities markets policy, focusing on global capital markets regulations.

A spokesperson for the commission says Tanya Panova, who previously worked for the cabinet on an interim basis, will oversee some of the areas that previously fell under Foulger's watch, such as asset management. She will also cover securities markets, as well as pensions, issues related to the European Securities and Markets Authority, and competition policy.

Panova has served as a member of the competition and the financial stability units at the EC.

 

HSBC has appointed Cyrille Sallé de Chou chief risk officer for its UK and Europe retail banking and wealth management businesses. Formerly chief risk officer for RateSetter, Sallé de Chou will report to Bruce Fletcher, chief risk officer for retail banking and wealth management.

He joins as a permanent replacement for Mark Thundercliffe, whose position Uttiyo Dasgupta had covered since July on an interim basis.

 

Goldman Sachs has announced a number of new appointments to its senior management team, following the departure of long-time chief operating officer Gary Cohn, who is joining the administration of US president-elect Donald Trump.

David Solomon and Harvey Schwartz have been promoted to president and co-chief operating officers, while Martin Chavez has been named deputy chief financial officer. Richard Gnodde and Pablo Salame have been named vice-chairmen.

Previously co-head of the investment banking division, Solomon has been with Goldman since 1999, when he joined the firm as a partner.

Solomon is a member of Goldman's management committee and a co-chair of its investment banking division executive committee.

Schwartz will remain chief financial officer until the end of April 2017. Following the transition to his new position, he will be replaced by Chavez, who will assume his responsibilities as chief financial officer. Chavez's most recent position with Goldman was chief information officer, overseeing the technology division.

Before taking up his current role as chief financial officer, Schwartz was global co-head of securities.

Gnodde and Salame will remain in their current roles as co-chief executive and co-head of the investment banking division and global co-head of securities, respectively, in addition to their new roles as vice-chairmen.

 

Credit Suisse has hired UBS’s Michael Stewart as its new global head of equities. He will be based in New York, reporting to Brian Chin, chief executive for global markets.

Stewart spent five years with UBS, most recently as head of global investment products and services in its wealth management division, having previously served as global head of equities in the New York office between 2011 and 2014. Before that, he held various senior roles at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in both New York and London, including leading the global equities division.

Stewart is due to assume his new position in June 2017.

 

Natixis has named Serge Ekué as senior country manager for the UK and head of global markets for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Ekué will be based in London. Previously, Ekué served as the bank’s Asia-Pacific head of global markets in Hong Kong, overseeing Natixis’s capital markets activities in the region.

Over the past 20 years, Ekué has served in a number of trading, sales and risk management roles. He started his career in foreign exchange sales at Crédit Agricole.

Ekué’s role as Asia-Pacific head of global markets will be filled by Emmanuel Lefort. Lefort will retain his current role of head of global structured credit and solutions. Previously based in London, Lefort has now relocated to Hong Kong. 

Ekué reports to both Pierre-Henri Denain, chief executive for Europe, Middle East and Africa, and Luc François, head of global markets. Lefort reports to François and Alain Gallois, chief executive for corporate and investment banking, Asia-Pacific.

 

Kim Taylor, CME Group’s president of global operations, technology and risk, has been appointed president of clearing and post-trade services. Taylor, who has worked for CME for nearly 30 years, has held various leadership roles, including president of CME Clearing between 2004 and 2010. Taylor also serves on the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s markets advisory committee.

Taylor reports to Terry Duffy, who recently assumed the role of CME chairman and chief executive following the departure of chief executive Phupinder Gill.

 

Bruce Richards, senior vice-president of financial supervision at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, is leaving the regulator, The Wall Street Journal reported. Richards has been working for the New York Fed for five years, in charge of supervising the largest banks under its jurisdiction. Before his most recent post, he was in charge of overseeing JP Morgan.

Richards reported to the head of financial supervision, Kevin Stiroh. Prior to joining the Fed, Richards worked for UBS for 12 years, and spent 10 years at National Australia Bank.

 

Peter Gorra has joined the New York-based G10 forex trading team at Nomura as a managing director. He will report to Karan Madan, head of emerging markets Americas.

Previously, Gorra was head of foreign exchange trading at BNP Paribas. Before joining BNPP, he spent eight years at RBS and six years at Credit Suisse.

 

Abu Dhabi’s ADS Securities has hired Karl Sees as its new global head of risk. Sees will report to Philippe Ghanem, ADS Securities’ chief executive and vice-chairman.

Sees is a 20-year veteran of risk management in the banking sector across various products and asset classes, having previously worked for Barclays, Deloitte and ING Barings. Previously head of corporate and institutional risk oversight, advice and engagement at UK lender RBS, he will now be based in Abu Dhabi.

Another change within the ranks of ADS Securities sees the promotion of Bryan Seegers to co-head of global electronic forex coverage. Seegers will lead the team with co-head Martin Inatowitz. Seegers joined ADS Securities in 2012 as a senior forex dealer.

 

Brian Traquair, Toronto-based group executive vice-president for vendor FIS Global’s capital markets business, has retired. Before FIS Global acquired SunGard in 2015, Traquair was in charge of SunGard’s capital markets business, leading all of the tech vendor’s sell-side solutions for equities, fixed income and derivatives. He joined the company in 2001 and became its executive vice-president in 2014.

Maria João Carioca, chief executive of Euronext Lisbon and member of the managing board of Euronext, has resigned after being asked by the Portuguese government to join the management board of Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD).

In her new position, Carioca will report to president Paulo Mota Pinto and the board. Her authorisation from the European Central Bank is pending. Her successor at Euronext has yet to be announced.

 

Lee Yi Shyan has been appointed chairman of Ice Futures Singapore and Ice Clear Singapore. He currently serves as a member of parliament in Singapore. His previous positions in government included senior minister of state in the ministries of trade and industry, national development, and manpower.

 

Non-bank lender OnDeck Capital has appointed Nick Brown as its chief risk officer. In this newly created position, Brown will monitor OnDeck’s credit and risk management strategy and execution, as well as credit and operational risk controls, portfolio oversight, and the company’s credit scoring models and credit policy.

Before joining OnDeck, Brown worked for Commonwealth Bank of Australia, where he was general manager of the group decision sciences team. Brown will report to chief executive Noah Breslow.
