Basel securitisation rules revisions criticised

While the December proposals incorporate many of the industry's comments, banks claim the rules are still too harsh

The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision's (BCBS) revised proposals regarding capital requirements for banks' securitisation positions have received a lukewarm reception from the industry, despite many changes they recommended to the previous draft being accepted by regulators.

The new proposals, outlined in a consultative document published on December 19 last year, abandon a twin alternative hierarchy system that was seen as confusing, and ditches the complicated modified standardised
