EBA plans new round of stress tests

New European Banking Authority announces second round of stress tests for European banks at opening meeting

At its inaugural gathering in London on Wednesday, the European Banking Authority (EBA) agreed on a strategic plan for a second European Union (EU)-wide stress test to assess the resilience of Europe's banking sector.

The stress tests will take place in the first half of 2011 with results published towards the middle of the year. The tests will would cover a broadly similar group of banks to those covered in 2010. The EBA said the methodology and approach would also build on past stress tests
