CBOE to extend US Vix trading to Asia hours

Extension may lead to greater range of Asia-specific volatility products

The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) is planning to capitalise on Asian demand for volatility instruments by expanding the trading hours of its Vix index, representing the implied volatility of the S&P 500 index options, to meet the business hours of firms trading in the region's time zones.

The CBOE confirmed that it is planning to extend Vix trading to Asian business hours but it hasn't yet set a start date and due to public holidays in the US it was unable to provide additional
