Asian exchanges could attract more block trades via dark pool tie-ups, says Liquidnet

Liquidnet founder, Seth Merrin, believes Asian exchanges should think ‘bigger picture’ by focusing on reclaiming liquidity from institutional order flows by linking up with dark pools

Agency broker Liquidnet, which provides a ‘dark’ trading venue for institutional investors to execute equities trading in blocks, says dark pools are not rivals to exchanges and the company wants to be a dark-pool partner to Asian bourses, with one such partnership set to be unveiled during the first quarter of 2012.

Seth Merrin, founder and chief executive of New York-headquartered Liquidnet, did not specify which Asian exchange it is in talks with, saying an Asian tie-up could follow the model
