
A diverse approach
Pension guarantee funds in the UK and the US have focused on a stochastic approach to modelling and managing risk, but others are taking a different approach. Aaron Woolner reports

The recent turbulence on the world's financial markets has made it clear that the easy credit conditions that buoyed companies and their pension schemes over the last few years have come to an end.
With the turn in the credit cycle, will come an increase in corporate defaults - with potential to threaten occupational pension benefits. Many countries have created pension guarantee funds to protect against this eventuality, with notable exceptions such as the Netherlands and Denmark, where funds
