Neil Allan

Neil is a pioneer in the use of complex adaptive systems theories to understand risk behaviour and culture. He led ground-breaking research into strategic risk in the UK (1996), which was funded by the Actuarial Profession and Department of Trade & Industry. More recently he was awarded the Peter Clark prize for his work on ERM tools for the UK Actuarial Profession. He has published many journal papers and booklets on risk management and systems approaches. He is a founder and fellow of the Bristol University Systems Centre and a visiting academic at the University of Canterbury (NZ) and University of Bath (UK).
In 1998 he set up Systemic Consult Ltd, a research and training consultancy, which helps organisations work with complexity, such as Rio Tinto, British Gas, Sinopec, Active Risk Group, Camco International, City Care, Mighty River Power and Babcock International. Their current work involves developing enterprise mapping, emerging risk and risk culture tools, mentoring and training.
