Alternative ucits still attractive for US-based managers

In 2007 the tide of regulation was clearly shifting for the alternative investment industry. A gap opened in the market for regulated absolute return strategies.

Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAML) was one of the first to identify the potential of a platform offering externally managed hedge funds within the Ucits wrapper, launching the Merrill Lynch Investment Solutions (MLIS) Ucits platform in 2007.

The move proved to be a good one. Since the crisis began investors have placed a greater premium
