China shows signs that it is moving towards opening to hedge funds

China is showing encouraging signs that it is willing to open its market to foreign investors and funds. Hedge funds are still excluded from the market but steps are being taken in the right direction.

Asia’s hedge fund industry is rapidly evolving and becoming more sophisticated. The quality of managers has vastly improved in recent years and the range of strategies employed by Asian managers has broadened, say those with knowledge of the market.

Testament to this is the recent link-up of NewAlpha Asset Management and Woori Absolute Partners to create an Asia-focused seeding fund. In February Worri NewAlpha Fund announced its first seed investment in a Singapore-based equity long/short manager
