With more than 20 years of experience in risk management and governance within the financial industry, Susan Ang is a hands-on practitioner skilled in both the first and second lines of defence. Her early roles as regional head of market risk, product control, and business compliance sharpened her risk management abilities and awareness. These foundational experiences propelled her into key leadership positions, such as head of operational risk management and business compliance, head of risk and prevention, head of business management and risk control, and head of client facing team business management and governance.

Susan’s deep business and risk knowledge allows her to seamlessly integrate theoretical concepts with business objectives, aligning them with team mindsets to mitigate risks effectively. She has driven a robust risk culture across all units, enhanced risk governance, and improved frameworks. Notably, she institutionalised the operational and compliance risk charter and facilitated audits leading to regulatory approval of the internal ratings-based approach (per MAS 637 Capital Adequacy requirements), freeing up substantial capital reserves for the organisation.

Her achievements also include supporting business expansion plans and successfully establishing a merchant bank and a new private banking unit in the region, both with sound risk management practices. As an innovator in the financial industry, Susan serves as an evaluator for the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) Financial Sector Technology and Innovation (FSTI) Proof of Concept (POC) scheme, which co-funds early-stage development projects.

Passionate about sharing her expertise, Susan collaborated with NTUitive in the 2021 Innovation Challenge and mentored NTU students. She also serves on the Expert Panel for the Customer Service Officer and Manager of the Wealth Management Institute (WMI), advising on course content to enhance technical skills and competencies in private banking and wealth management in Singapore.
